Requirements
- Valid, Unexpired Identification Documents: Employees must provide original documents from the USCIS-approved list(s) (e.g., passport, driver's license, social security card).
- Employee Presence: The employee must be physically present for the verification process, as remote document verification is not permitted.
- Employer Authorization: The employer must authorize an authorized representative to complete Form I-9 on their behalf.
- Employer Instructions: In certain situations, some employers may provide specific instructions on how to complete Section 2 of Form I-9. These instructions must be provided in advance by the signer to ensure accurate and compliant verification
- Correctly Completed Form I-9: The employee must complete Section 1 of Form I-9 before the verification appointment.
